This protective case for your iPad 2 is meant as a complement to Apple's SmartCover. The SmartCover protects the screen and front of your iPad 2 nicely, but it leaves the back of it wide open for all kinds of trouble like scratches and dirt and grime. The SMARTMATEC (Smart Mate Clear) handles this issue by covering up the iPad 2's backside with a hard plastic shell. It snaps on simply and helps lock the SmartCover into place on the hinge. The hardshell provides maximum protection, but it also has openings for all the main ports. If you have a SmartCover you can't afford not to pick up a SMARTMATEC.
